.ES is the TLD for Spain, and is regulated by the RED.ES Registry.
Contacts

- Individuals, legal entities, and organizations without legal entity.

The Admin contact for .ES domains must be an individual and not an organization.
If the Owner (Registrant) contact has an organization name, the Owner and Admin contact must have different ID numbers.
Registrant verification
The .ES registry is enforcing a special cancellation procedure which requires registrants (owners) to specify their registrant type and provide associated IDs at the registry level during registration. The process is essentially a combination of the registrant verification procedure and WDRP, and registrants are required to complete the process within 10 days of being notified. The Admin contact is notified to carry out the verification. If not verified, the domain will stop resolving. In addition, the "Name of Blocked Domain" will also display as Procedimiento de Cancelación (Cancellation Procedure) on the whois look up. After 30 days, the domain will be scheduled for deletion. Domains deleted for this reason can not be recovered. If a domain is deleted, the registrant will be notified via email.
How is the verification process initiated?
The registrant will receive an email from red.es (.es registry) with the subject:
Comunicado relativo a la desactivación de las DNS del nombre de dominio {domain} en el marco del procedimiento de cancelación especial para la comprobación del cumplimiento de los requisitos de asignación.
This roughly translates to:
Under the cancellation procedures please note that the DNS pertaining to this domain will be disabled.
What needs to be done?
In the email sent to the registrant, there is a link to a document which outlines how to complete the verification process. The complete Registry policy is outlined here: English | Spanish and replicated below:
After logging in at nic.es with the Admin contact handle and password, the user must:
- Access the list of allegations of special cancellations from the My Request/Pending Cancellation Procedure menu on the left-hand side.
- Click on the cancellation reference to view the information window that displays the option to attach allegations.
- Select Present Allegations to view the titular person's data.
From here, the user should select one of the following options:
Option 1: Modify
This allows the user to change or update incorrect data.
Option 2: Continue
This allows the user to confirm that the data is correct.
Option 3: Check the box
The user should select this option if the data related to the contact person is correct (natural person), but the type of contact (legal person) is incorrect. The user will then be prompted to replace the identifier.
4. When finished, click on the Continue button. A new window will appear, in which the user can attach documentation that verifies the information provided in the previous form.
5. The document supplied should validate the company registration number and details or the ID of the domain holder if private person.
Note: A Legal Person is an organization, and a Natural Person is a private individual.
Change of Ownership (Trade)
Fee: $0
If you are only changing the Admin contact email, you do not need to initiate a trade. Simply send a verified request to Enom Support requesting the email update.
Changes to the Registrant (Owner) information for a .ES domain name must be confirmed by both the current and the new Admin Contact. The current and new Admin contacts will need to upload a photo ID at the registry. Each will receive an email from the .ES registry containing the approval link. Both emails must be approved. In some cases, the registry may request additional documentation. Here are the steps:
- Send a verified request to Enom Support with the new Registrant and Admin contact information:
-
First Name:
Last Name:
Organization: (Optional)
Phone Number:Address:

-
- If the current Admin email needs to be updated, please specify that in the request.
- Once the trade is processed, Enom Support will let you know the contact handles for the new Registrant and Admin.
- The current Admin can retrieve the contact handle via the .ES registry WHOIS.
- The password for both new and current Admins can be obtained using the contact handle.
- The current Admin needs to initiate the trade:
- Sign in at the registry
- Click on "Solicitud Transmisión de dominio" (Domain Transfer Request)
- Enter the domain name.
- Enter the new Registrant contact handle, where it says "Titular nuevo".
- Enter the new Admin contact handle, where it says "PCA nuevo".
- Enter the CAPCHA shown on the page, and click "Continuar".
- On the next page, click "Tramitacion sin DNIe Certificado ..." (Process without DNI certificate...)
- Upload the ID / Passport copy of the current Admin contact. Please note, the file has to be a .JPG with max file size of 2MB and max. dimension of 600px by 600px.
- Click "Finalizar solicitud" (Finish request).
- The new Admin needs to approve or deny the transfer request. To do so,
- Sign into the registry
- Click on the approval link in the email that the registry sends to the new admin.
- The registry portal will display details for review. The “New registrant's conditions acceptance” form will appear.
- The new Admin must choose "1API" as registrar, and click "Next" without changing anything else on the form.
- On the next page, press "Tramitacion sin DNIe Certificado ..." (Process without DNI Certificate ...)
- The new Admin contact should upload a copy of their ID card or passport, to sign the request. The file has to be a .JPG with max file size of 2MB and max. dimension of 600px by 600px.
- Once signed, a request will be displayed, and the trade will complete.
The change of ownership requires that the Admin Contact submit the new contact handle directly to the .ES registry to complete the change. The current Admin contact on the domain will need to update this at the Registry. The admin contact can request their login here.
How do I look up the current Admin contact handle?
You can view the ESNIC ID via web whois. The console whois lookup only works if your IP Address is whitelisted for access so it's easier to use the web lookup at nic.es homepage.
- Enter the domain without the .es part. For example, if I want to look up nic.es, I will just enter nic in the search box, then press Enter.
- Enter the characters that are displayed then click "Continue"
- The Admin handle is shown. In this example, the handle is "5BB6F8-ESNIC-F5"
Note that the contact handle for the Registrant (owner) is not shown.
How do I get the password for a contact handle?
This can be retrieved using the forgot password option available on the login page.
Renewal
Manual Renewal
- Can only be manually renewed between [60 days before expiry] and the [expiry date]
- Please do not renew this domain directly at the Red.es registry. Doing so will transfer the domain away from Enom. If the customer wishes to return to Enom, they would need to initiate a transfer back
Auto-Renewal
- For details, see Auto-Renew Only Domains
Grace
- Does not have a grace period.
Redemption
- Fee: $250 + regular renewal fee
- To redeem, send a verified request to Enom Support and acknowledge the redemption + renewal fees
- If not set to Auto-Renew, .ES goes directly into the redemption upon expiry
Incoming Transfer
- Year added and charge applied if domain is within 90 days of its expiration date.
- Does not support the concept of transfer locks or EPP transfer codes
- If transfer is requested, the Registry sends a link to the Admin contact to approve/deny transfer
- Must be approved within 10 days or the transfer is cancelled automatically.
